First of all congratulations on your interest in NLP. NLP is a very fascinating area to study and new discoveries are made all the time. My first suggestion on how to use NLP would be to use it on yourself.
Using it for self-improvement is a great way to start. Pick a habit you want to change or a fear you have that you want to put a stop to. Work on that and be your own therapist working through NLP techniques to get you where you want to be in life.
After perfecting it on yourself, try to place some anchors on yourself. After you have anchored something like great self-confidence, try to anchor other people.
With other people you could start by mirroring their body postures and trying to build great rapport.
Use this as a very basic starting point in your lifelong adventure with NLP. Remember that there are no limits with this technology. Technically if someone achieved something already there is no reason why you cannot.
