Depression and NLP
NLP can be used to treat depression and it has been known to work quite quickly. Much more quickly than other forms of psychotherapy that lasts for years. These quick treatments for depression has made NLP very controversial in the scientific community. Here are some tips to cure depression using NLP techniques.
You can define depression however you want, but actually in NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) the use of the term depression is not used and is discouraged from being used because it is not helpful for the patient and does not accurately define the problem.
NLP is great for dealing with someone who thinks they are depressed because it is drug free, works quickly, and often times benefits are seen in other areas of the patients life as well.
NLP works on what you might see, feel, or hear when you are depressed. For example, ask yourself this question: How do you get depressed?
In order for you to get depressed you have to think certain things and do certain things. If you can figure out what those are you can stop becoming depressed.
For example in your mind picture what a depressed person looks like. You are probably envisioning a person who is slumped over and has a sad expression on their face.
Just by changing how you move your body can improve how you feel dramatically. Try sitting up, holding your head up high, smiling, or walking faster.
Motion of the body has a great influence on emotion.
Besides changing our physiology we can change our thought patterns or their submodalities. For example when you are depressed what do you think about? What visions are in your head?
NLP submodalities is another post I’ll do, but if certain pictures in your mind cause you depression, by lessening the brightness or closeness of those images in your mind you can reduce how much they influence you.
A skilled NLP practitioner can quickly treat someone who has been depressed for a long time. In almost all cases you don’t need drugs or years of therapy.
There are just the tip of the iceberg that NLP has to offer when it comes to treating depression.
